Robert Durst died of Cardiac arrest
Robert Durst, convicted murderer, eccentric scion of a New York real estate dynasty and subject of the HBO documentaries ‘The Jinx‘, has died at the age of 78, less than three months after Durst was sentenced to life prison without parole for the 2000 murder of his friend Susan Berman.
Durst died in a state prison hospital facility in Stockton, his attorney Chip Lewis said. He said it was from natural causes due to a number of health issues.
“Mr. Durst passed away early this morning while in the custody of California’s Department of Corrections” Chip Lewis, a trial lawyer told to NY Times “We understand that his death was due to natural causes associated with a litany of medical issues we had repeatedly reported to the court over the last couple of years”
Robert Durst was convicted in September of shooting Susan Berman at point-blank range in 2000 at her Los Angeles home. He was sentenced to life October 14.
Born April 12, 1943, and raised in the swanky New York City suburb of Scarsdale, Durst was the eldest son of Seymour Durst, who ran the Durst organization, one of the most powerful real estate empires in Manhattan. At the time of his death, Durst was said to be worth over $100 million.
